The event brought together the Heads of Tax Administrations and the European Commission to strengthen administrative cooperation and support the effective implementation of EU tax policy priorities.

The summit provided a forum for strategic discussion, exchange of experience and practical cooperation on common challenges facing tax administrations across the European Union. The 2026 summit focused on preparing for the effective implementation of several pieces of Union legislation, improving Member States’ agility to tackle VAT fraud, and closing tax gaps more effectively through data-driven and collaborative actions. Participants also discussed operational approaches to combat VAT e-commerce fraud, building on project outcomes and launching joint risk analysis initiatives.

Background

The Tax Administration EU Summit (TADEUS) is a forum for the heads and deputy heads of EU countries’ tax administrations. Together with the Commission, they meet regularly to improve administrative cooperation within the EU and to meet common challenges. Tax administrations are key actors in implementing EU tax policy, especially in the field that Commissioner Hoekstra considers as a priority, such as closing the tax gaps and advancing the fight against tax fraud.
