CEF Transport: Almost €3 billion requested for transport infrastructure projects

image

CINEA received 246 applications requesting almost €3 billion in co-funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Transport by the 6 October 2026 call deadline. This represents nearly 2.69 times the €1.1 billion budget available under the 2026 CEF Transport calls for proposals.

CINEA will now check the admissibility and eligibility of the proposals. Eligible proposals will then be evaluated by independent external experts, the European Commission and CINEA. Applicants will be informed of the evaluation results in March 2027, with grant agreements for successful projects expected to be signed by June 2027.

The selected projects will help build and modernise transport infrastructure in the European Union and beyond. They will contribute to the development of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T), including by supporting military mobility.

Background

CEF Transport is the key EU funding instrument for the completion and modernisation of the trans-European transport network.

CEF-funded projects support the European Commission’s vision of a more sustainable, smart and resilient transport system, contributing to the EU’s goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050. Under the CEF programme for the period 2021-2027, €25.8 billion is available to support transport projects of common interest on the TEN-T network. Around 80% of allocated CEF Transport funding contributes to climate objectives, in line with the Union’s commitments.

Since 2014, CEF has supported 1 943 projects for €46.54 billion in the transport sector.
