In the first quarter of 2025, one in three newly registered cars in Belgium was fully electric—an increase driven by the arrival of more affordable models and a trend expected to continue in the coming years.
Currently, most electric vehicles in Belgium are company cars, with only one in ten privately owned. This could shift as more low-cost models enter the market, and increased availability helps drive prices down.
Plug-in hybrid vehicles are declining in popularity due to limited cost benefits. Meanwhile, charging infrastructure is expanding rapidly to meet rising demand. According to Traxio, there are now 84,000 public charging points across Belgium—up from 48,000 at the end of 2023. These stations are also becoming faster and more efficient, making it easier than ever for drivers to recharge.
