The first of 18 new trams commissioned by the Municipality of Iași has been delivered. The remaining 17 trams will arrive in phases, with a new vehicle delivered every three months.
Designed specifically for the city, each tram features a three-module structure, measuring 20 metres in length and 2.4 metres in width. They can carry up to 200 passengers. With a focus on energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact, the trams are part of a broader investment in Iași’s public transport network worth over 141 million lei (around €28 million).
The electric trams include advanced technology to boost sustainability and improve the passenger experience. Their modern design is intended to ease traffic congestion, reduce carbon emissions and support Iași’s goal of a cleaner, more efficient urban mobility system. The new fleet is expected to significantly improve daily commuting in the city.
The city’s authorities have underscored their commitment to Romania’s urban development. The newly delivered tram will be officially presented at a public event in front of the Palace of Culture, hosted by city officials.
