Eurostat: EU economy greenhouse gas emissions: -0.4% in Q2 2025

The EU’s greenhouse gas emissions fell by 0.4% in Q2 2025 (772 million tonnes CO2-eq), while GDP grew by 1.3%. The largest reductions were in Slovenia (-8.6%), the Netherlands (-5.9%), and Finland (-4.2%).

The Commission will soon propose measures to ensure a smooth start of the new EU Emissions Trading System for road transport and buildings (ETS2), addressing price stability and investment needs. Plans include early auctions, an ETS2 Frontloading Facility, and stronger market-stability safeguards.
