he European Commission has launched a call for applications, inviting top scientists researching AI or using AI in their research to join the newly formed RAISE High-Level Academic Advisory Board. The board will play a key role in steering the future of AI-powered science and fundamental AI research across Europe.
The call is open until 4 September 2026.
Launched in November 2025, RAISE – the Resource for AI Science in Europe is a virtual institute pooling top talent and resources to drive excellence in AI science, spanning both AI in science and the science of AI. It is currently in its pilot phase and is funded under the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe programmes.
Why an Advisory Board for RAISE?
The future of AI Science and RAISE is being built with and for the European scientific community. Through its academic advisory board, the Commission will make sure RAISE prioritises excellence in European AI science and can provide optimised scientific support. Leading experts will provide policy inputs and strategic recommendations to empower European scientists and unlock the full potential of AI Science to accelerate breakthroughs.
The expert group will provide independent scientific advice to guide the implementation of the EU’s AI in Science Strategy and the long-term development of RAISE.
Who could apply?
The Commission is looking for academics leading in AI research, working at the interface of AI fundamental research and its application across scientific fields. Together they will shape RAISE hand in hand with the scientific community and across disciplines.
Background
The Commission launched RAISE under the AI in Science Strategy to pool Europe’s leading AI talent, computational power, data and research funding. Its goal is to accelerate breakthroughs in fundamental AI research and across scientific disciplines such as medicine, climate science and advanced materials, through the use of AI.
The advisory board will be a key component of the governance of RAISE and will help consolidate efforts toward the uptake of AI in science and the acceleration of scientific breakthroughs in AI.
