On 26 November 2025, the Commission hosted its second online workshop on the EU Recognition of customs academic Programmes, bringing together recognised and prospective universities to share insights, research, and best practices in customs education.

On 26 November 2025, the Commission hosted its second online workshop on the EU Recognition of customs academic Programmes, bringing together recognised and prospective universities to share insights, research, and best practices in customs education. Building on the positive outcomes of the first workshop in January, this event reinforced the growing collaboration between academia and customs authorities across Europe.

The workshop opened with a presentation from the University for Continuing Education Krems, recently awarded recognition for its professional Bachelor’s degree in Applied Tax Law.

Three leading universities then showcased their innovative research:

  • The Vytautas Magnus University highlighted its participation in Horizon Europe and Interreg projects focused on rural bioeconomy, digital bio-business, and farm health and safety.
  • The Rotterdam School of Management presented cutting-edge studies on customs detection for e-commerce parcels, digital product passports, and the Pan-European Network of Customs Professionals (PEN-CP), developed in cooperation with EU customs administrations.
  • The University of Münster showcased research on EU customs valuation and classification challenges, undervaluation impacts, and the effects of the proposed EU Customs Authority on logistics and customs harmonisation.

Additionally, the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences (EASS) shared success stories from its Customs programme, emphasising practical training, strong industry links, and excellent graduate employment within the Estonian Tax and Customs Board.

Looking ahead, participants agreed on the importance of continued cooperation and co-creation with universities, setting the stage for the next workshop scheduled for March 2026.
