Poland to create local mobilty hubs as part of high-speed rail development

As part of Poland’s strategic investment in a modern transport system, local mobility hubs are being developed to improve transport access, support urban growth, and boost regional economies.

Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) is Poland’s flagship transport infrastructure project to build a modern national transport system. As part of the CPK programme, a high-speed rail network will be developed with a strong focus on passengers and local communities. Along the new rail lines, there is a focus on creating Local Mobility Hubs (LMHs) – modern, multi-use railway stations designed to integrate into their surroundings and support sustainable urban development.

LMHs are more than transport stops. They are designed to become vibrant community centres that reflect modern urban planning principles. The LMHs aim to improve access to transport, reuse space around stations for housing and services, put passengers first in design, connect rail with other types of travel and boost local economies.

The process begins with a detailed study of the area – assessing transport links, existing services, potential for growth, and how people use the urban space. Each hub is developed in close cooperation with local councils and regional partners, who play a key role by participating in workshops, planning sessions and decision-making processes. This collaborative approach ensures that each hub reflects the identity and needs of its community. CPK also helps municipalities address complex challenges such as land ownership and planning regulations, ensuring smoother implementation.

Current projects in Sieradz and Kalisz demonstrate this approach in practice, with designs that preserve historical buildings while improving access for walking and cycling.
