In 2024, non-EU citizens made up 22.2% of the part-time workforce in the EU, the latest EU labour force survey notes.
Over the last 10 years, Eurostat has been noting a decrease in the overall share of part-time employment, including among non-EU migrants who are closing the gap between themselves and EU citizens residing in other EU countries. And while in 2024 migrants were still more likely to be engaged in part time employment compared to EU citizens working in other EU countries (20.8%) and EU citizens working in their native countries (16.6%), the rate of part-time employment has been on the decrease for all three groups.
The statistics also observes a notable gender gap. When it comes to migrant women from outside the EU, 36.8% were employed part-time in 2024. Non-EU men, at the same time, worked part time in 11.8% of the cases. A similar gap is also present among nationals of reporting EU countries, with women engaged in part-time employment at 27.0% and men – at 7.4%.
