The Gas Coordination Group met again yesterday to take stock of the current gas market situation. Despite lower storage levels compared to historical levels, the Commission and EU countries reconfirmed that EU gas supply remains stable. The Commission will keep monitoring the situation very closely in cooperation with EU countries and stakeholders.
The group heard from the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) on its preliminary findings to be used in its Winter Preparedness Report (due for publication on 8 October).
The meeting also discussed the enforcement of the gas supply standard under Article 6 of the Security of Gas Supply Regulation (2017/1938). These rules ensure that gas continues to be delivered to protected customers, especially households and essential services, in case of serious adverse events. The Gas Coordination Group confirmed that, under the conditions set out in the Regulation, supply to protected customers is guaranteed.
A further meeting of the Gas Coordination Group, in its format including gas associations, is scheduled for 8 October 2026.
