European Commission publishes stocktaking report on green and digital transition in tourism

The latest stocktaking report demonstrates that the co-creation process for developing the transition pathway and its key actions have inspired a significant number of stakeholders to take action.

On 28 May 2025, the European Commission published its second progress report on its transition pathway for tourism, titled Taking Stock of Progress by 2024. The report presents development across all action areas over the past three years, following the publication of the pathway towards a green and digital tourism.

Over 240 tourism stakeholders have actively contributed to the green transition of tourism in the EU, with many focusing on improving sustainable travel options. The report emphasises progress in promoting sustainable travel options for tourists, including the development of multimodal transport systems that integrate various modes of transport to enhance connectivity and reduce reliance on individual car use.

This second stocktaking report of progress towards actions in the Transition Pathway for Tourism, along with the EU Tourism Agenda for 2030 will culminate in a report to the Council by the end of this year.
