The European Commission has launched a public consultation to gather input from stakeholders on the forthcoming evaluation of the Balanced Approach Regulation. This regulation establishes a process for introducing noise-related operating restrictions at major European Union airports. It ensures that when Member States intend to address noise concerns, they consider a comprehensive range of measures before imposing air traffic restrictions. Furthermore, it guarantees that all relevant stakeholders are consulted throughout the decision-making process.
Enabling an effective noise management strategy is crucial to safeguard the well-being of citizens residing near airports. Such a strategy must carefully balance the interests of local communities, air transport users.
The public consultation is available on the Commission’s ‘Have your Say’ portal, in all official EU languages. The Commission encourages all interested parties to participate in this consultation, by submitting their contributions by 19 November 2026.
