The Italian Government has reintroduced the Ecobonus for cycles and motorcycles, allocating €30 million as incentives. These are the funds allocated by the 2021 Budget Law, which had planned a total of €150 million, divided into €20 million per year for 2021-2023 and €30 million per year for 2024-2026.
The Ecobonus aims to promote sustainable mobility by encouraging the purchase of electric and hybrid cycles and motorcycles. This initiative is part of Italy’s broader strategy aimed at reducing carbon emissions from transport and promoting environmentally friendly transportation options.
The financial incentives apply to all L-category vehicles, including electric and hybrid models. The following vehicles are eligible for funding:
- L1e: mopeds with a maximum speed of 45 km/h
- L2e: three-wheeled mopeds
- L3e: motorcycles with a maximum speed exceeding 45 km/h
- L4e: motorcycles with sidecars
- L5e: three-wheeled motorcycles
- L6e: light quadricycles
- L7e: heavy quadricycles.
For electric and hybrid cycles, the incentive amounts to up to 40% of the vehicle’s list price, with a maximum of €4,000 if an older vehicle is scrapped. Without scrapping, the percentage drops to 30%. For hybrid vehicles (with emissions between 21-120 gCO2/km), the incentive is 20% of the list price, with a maximum of €2,500 if an older vehicle is scrapped.
Dealers can book the incentives through the dedicated portal on the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security’s website. The platform opened on 18 March 2025 and reservations can be made until 31 December 2025, or until the allocated funds are exhausted.
