Commission launches call for evidence on Air Services Regulation revision

The Commission has launched a call for evidence to gather input from stakeholders on the upcoming revision of the Air Services Regulation

The European Commission has launched a call for evidence to gather input from stakeholders on the upcoming revision of the Air Services Regulation – the framework governing access to and operation within the EU internal market for air services. The Regulation covers key areas such as market entry, pricing, and operational freedoms, determining when and where EU air carriers can operate freely within the Union.

Originally introduced in 1992 and last revised in 2008, the Air Services Regulation has played a vital role in the development of the EU’s internal aviation market. It has driven sector growth and enhanced connectivity across the EU, benefiting citizens in all regions, including remote and outermost areas.

However, a 2019 evaluation and recent assessments have identified the need for updates to better support the sector’s green transition and improve its resilience to crises.

The call for evidence is available on the Commission’s Have your Say’ portal, in all official EU languages. Stakeholders are invited to submit their contributions by 9 June 2025.

In the coming weeks, the Commission will also launch a public consultation to collect more detailed feedback on the challenges and potential solutions the revision should address.
