On 23 and 24 September 2025, the European Commission, under the Community for European Research and Innovation for Security (CERIS), alongside the European Association for Biometrics (EAB), co-organised the “Biometrics in Action for Border Management & Fight Against Crime and Terrorism” workshop.
From 6 to 8 October 2025, Athens became a hub for disaster resilience innovation and collaboration. The conference brought together over 250 experts, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners from across Europe and beyond.
The Commission presented its 2026 work programme, detailing actions to foster a more sovereign and independent Europe. The programme tackles current and future challenges, from geopolitical tensions to economic risks and climate change, and pays special attention to security risks facing the Union.

On 25 September, the Commission Director for Internal Security and Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, attended the 4th EU–China Dialogue on Drugs in Beijing, following a meeting on drug precursors. The dialogues offered the opportunity for the first meeting with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security.
In her State of the Union address, President von der Leyen emphasised the importance of a united and strong Europe in the face of global migration and security challenges, announcing a tripling of the EU budget for migration and border management, as well as sanctions targeted to migrant smugglers.
EU-Patrols enables law enforcement officers from one country to partner with those of other EU countries, maintaining public order in popular tourist destinations during peak seasons and during major events. Thanks to this unique cooperation, over 550 joint patrols were carried out in 2025 alone.
