AccessibleEU held a high-level event in Brussels on 3rd July, bringing together European institutions, national governments, leading companies, disability organisations and accessibility experts.
The event served to analyse the European Accessibility Act, which came into force on June 28th and to emphasise the need to comply with it. The Act requires that a set of products and services meet accessibility requirements for all users.
These products and services include the emergency number 112, consumer electronics (TVs, smartphones, computers, video game consoles, etc.), vending and ticket machines, websites and mobile apps, e-commerce platforms, and emergency services, among others.
Additionally, AccessibleEU’s director, Jesús Hernández Galán, summarised AccessibleEU’s key achievements during 2024. The 2024 Executive Summary is available in English, French and German and can be dowloaded at AccessibleEU website.
The day included thematic panels on ICT products, transport, digital services, telecommunications, public procurement and the built environment.
It was attended by representatives of disabled people’s organisations, national authorities, including the Director for Equality and Non-Discrimination at the European Commission Ana Carla Pereira, and technology companies, who shared their views and experiences in implementing the new legal requirements.
