DG CNECT is launching three surveys to gather evidence for future EU investment needs in the research, innovation and deployment of digital technologies and capabilities. The surveys are part of two ongoing studies, in preparation of the next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028-2034): one on the research, development and innovation of strategic digital technologies beyond 2027 and another on the deployment (integration, application and roll-out) of digital technologies and infrastructures and related skills development.
The surveys cover a broad range of digital technological areas, ranging from semiconductors and photonics to artificial intelligence, data, high performance computing and many others.
All stakeholders active in the EU digital ecosystem are welcome to fill out the stakeholder survey, but public sector entities and companies are also invited to contribute to both surveys.
The surveys are open until 23 May 2025.
Stakeholder survey
The stakeholder survey collects feedback on present and future needs and opportunities for EU investments in the R&I and deployment of digital technologies.
It targets a diverse group of stakeholders including research organisations, academia, public sector entities, industry (large enterprises, SMEs, start-ups and scale-ups), financial intermediaries (e.g. investors and venture capitalists), industry associations and civil society.
Depending on the focus and expertise of the responding organisation, the survey can be filled out for ‘research & development’, ‘deployment & adoption’ or both..
Survey on digital technology uptake by the public sector
The survey on digital technology uptake by the public sector collects information on the adoption and update of digital technologies by public bodies, as well as on key challenges and opportunities foreseen in the next programming period (2028-2034).
This survey targets specifically public bodies and public service providers in diverse sectors (e.g. public administrations, health, transport etc.)
Market survey for the private sector
Through the Market survey for the private sector, enterprises of all sizes (from large corporations to SMEs and start-ups) are invited to share insights about their current and envisaged adoption of advanced digital technologies, the key use cases they are exploring and the challenges they face in today’s market environment.
