Improving energy and resource efficiency for electric bus fleets

Electrification of bus fleets is an important step toward reducing emissions. The E-MED project supports cities in enhancing route optimisation, charging strategies, and procurement. Public transport authorities are invited to contribute through a survey to inform future operational guidelines.

The electrification of bus fleets is a crucial step toward reducing CO₂ emissions from transport in urban areas. However, there is still much more that can be done. Cities must also focus on energy and resource efficiency to maximise efforts to work towards achieving sustainable public transport, which could include measures such as optimising bus routes, considering alternative technologies, implementing smart charging strategies, or improving procurement processes.

The Interreg Euro-Med E-MED project aims to gather insights to support cities in these areas and invites public transport authorities and operators to share their experiences through an online survey. Responses will contribute to the development of practical guidelines for optimising electric bus fleet operations. Participants who complete the full survey will receive E-MED’s guidelines for circular procurement processes and an analysis of successful eco-driving pilot programmes.
