Ireland partners with the European Skills & VET Week

This November, the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU is joining the European Skills & VET Week to highlight how vocational education and training can respond to Europe’s rapidly changing skills needs.

At the heart of this cooperation is the 21st Cedefop Brussels Seminar, co-organised by Cedefop and the Irish Presidency of the Council on 30 November. Under the title “Modernising VET policies and systems for the green and digital economy”, the seminar will explore how countries are adapting VET systems for the green and digital transitions.

The discussion will put the spotlight on some of the most pressing issues in education and training today: embedding green skills in learning provision, responding to fast-evolving labour market needs, and understanding how artificial intelligence is reshaping both skills demand and the delivery of teaching and learning.

Drawing on data and evidence from Cedefop’s Timeline of VET policies in Europe and VET in Europe database, the seminar will present examples from different countries and sectors, highlighting key lessons, persistent challenges and gaps still to be addressed.

Alongside the Brussels seminar, Ireland will also host the Construction Sector Skills Forum on 24 November, in Dublin. Organised by Ireland’s Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, this annual event brings together stakeholders to exchange views, strengthen collaboration and inform future construction skills provision.

With support and participation from Cedefop and the European Commission, this year’s forum will focus in particular on international collaboration, shared skills challenges, workforce development and the future of construction skills across Europe.

Bringing together international experts, industry leaders, tertiary educators, State agencies and government departments, it will offer valuable insights into how to build a workforce ready for a greener, more digital economy.

Together, these two events will showcase Ireland’s strong engagement with the European skills agenda and provide an important platform to exchange ideas, share evidence and shape future approaches to skills and VET policy.
