EU acts against dumped imports of lysine from China

Today the Commission imposed definitive anti-dumping duties ranging from 47.7% to 58.2% on imports of lysine originating in the People’s Republic of China.

The measures aim to protect EU producers of lysine – an essential amino acid for human and animal health – from unfair trading practices.

Synthetic lysine is used in animal feed, in pharmaceuticals and in dietary supplements. It enables farmers to meet their animals’ nutritional requirements more accurately, saving land and reducing nitrogen pollution – such as nitrates and ammonia – on livestock farms.

Today’s anti-dumping duties were imposed following an investigation which showed that dumped imports of lysine from the People’s Republic of China were harming EU industry. The duties imposed today should help EU lysine makers to compete on a more equal footing with their Chinese counterparts.
