Help shape the future Atlantic Maritime and Macro-regional Strategy

The European Council conclusions of 18 December 2025 invited the European Commission, in cooperation with Member States, to develop an EU Macro-regional Strategy for the Atlantic by June 2027.

The future Strategy is expected to strengthen resilience, security, sustainability, competitiveness and territorial cohesion, while improving coordination between existing policies, programmes and stakeholders. It will build on the existing Atlantic Maritime Strategy and the Atlantic Action Plan, while broadening cooperation to address shared territorial and maritime challenges.

In line with this mandate, the proposed approach is designed to ensure continuity with existing cooperation efforts and to avoid duplication, while offering a broader and more integrated strategic framework for the Atlantic area.

The European Commission has published a call for evidence to give the opportunity for stakeholders to express their views on the future Atlantic Maritime and Macro-regional Strategy.

The call for evidence is an important step in the co-creation of the future Strategy. It seeks input from a wide range of stakeholders, including Member State authorities, regional and local governments, programme managing authorities, economic and social partners, blue economy actors, energy and transport operators, research and innovation organisations, civil society groups and citizens. International and cross-border stakeholders involved in Atlantic-related cooperation are also encouraged to contribute.
