A new co-funded European Partnership for Resilient Cultural Heritage kicked off today in Marseille. With an overall budget of EUR 215 million – out of which a EUR 65 million contribution from Horizon Europe, it brings together 90 partners from 30 countries.
The Partnership aims to strengthen the preservation of Europe’s cultural heritage against climate and environmental change, while at the same time introducing both traditional and innovative cultural heritage practices to contribute towards a climate neutral future. To achieve this, it will:
- increase collaboration across countries and regions
- improve the coordination of research at the intersection of cultural heritage and climate change
- integrate cultural heritage into mainstream climate change and environmental regulations, policies and adaptation strategies.
In this way it will contribute to the European Green Deal, the European Framework for Action on Cultural Heritage and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
For the next 10 years, the Partnership will launch transnational joint calls for research projects, which will be accompanied by an ecosystem of activities to support and amplify the impact of the projects, such as capacity building, impact monitoring and networking opportunities.
