The items include Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) equipment.
This delivery is part of two assistance measures under the European Peace Facility (EPF) agreed by the EU Council on 10 July 2023 in Council Decision (CFSP) 2023/1440 and 4 April 2024 in Council Decision (CFSP) 2024/1063.
This delivery of equipment builds on two previous shipments delivered by the EPF to Ghana’s military, which includes riverine equipment, advanced communication technology, militarised vehicles and military engineering equipment. It underscores the strengthening of the EU-Ghana partnership, focusing on security and defence, and supporting Ghana and the broader sub-region in addressing the significant threat posed by the spill-over effects of terrorism from the Sahel.
The EU’s military support aims to bolster the capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces in safeguarding Ghana’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, while also protecting its civilian population against both internal and external threats, contributing to peace and stability across the region.
In the coming months, the EPF plans to supply the Ghana Armed Forces with more equipment, including electronic warfare systems, medical gear, riverine equipment, explosive ordnance disposal systems, and additional military engineering equipment.
