A public consultation has been launched by the Commission today as part of review of 4 EU regulations to encourage the manufacture of more energy-efficient refrigerators.

The review aims to expand product requirements beyond energy efficiency and energy consumption to also cover reparability and recyclability, amongst others.

The consultation process is designed in the form of 2 surveys on ecodesign and energy labelling, one covering household fridges and the other covering commercial fridges such as those used in supermarkets.

The Commission seeks to collect extensive feedback through a broad and transparent process.

The consultation opens on 4 December 2025 and lasts until 26 February 2026.
