EU signs a working agreement on law enforcement with Egypt

Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, signed a Working Arrangement between Europol and Egypt at the margins of the 2nd Ministerial Conference of the Khartoum Process, which is expected to enhance law enforcement cooperation between the two sides of the Mediterranean.

Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, signed a Working Arrangement between Europol and Egypt. This landmark agreement, the first of its kind in North Africa, will enhance law enforcement cooperation between the two sides of the Mediterranean. 

Commissioner Brunner participated in the 2nd Ministerial Conference of the Khartoum Process in Cairo, which promotes cooperation among countries along the migration routes between the Horn of Africa and Europe.  

The process aims to promote political cooperation, combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling, and facilitate dialogue between countries.   

Commissioner Brunner also met with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, to discuss migration management cooperation, including legal migration, talent partnerships, and counter-smuggling efforts. He also met the Minister of Interior, Mahmoud Tawfik, to exchange views on cooperation on return and readmission, counterterrorism, and cooperation with EU agencies.
