Today, Portugal, Slovakia and Norway signed the Joint Declaration of Intent on large-scale cross-border testbeds for autonomous vehicles during Connecting Europe Days in Brussels. Spain signed the Declaration last week, bringing the total number of participating countries to 22.
The additional signatories reflect the continued commitment to accelerate the harmonised deployment of autonomous vehicles across Europe in a safe, coordinated and competitive way, building on the initiative launched under the European Automotive Action Plan.
Background
The large-scale cross-border testbed initiative for autonomous vehicles was launched under the European Automotive Action Plan. It aims to support the harmonised commercial pre-deployment of autonomous vehicles across Europe by bringing together Member States, non-EU countries, regional and local authorities, industry stakeholders and transport operators.
The Joint Declaration was first signed in June by 18 Member States. Spain joined the initiative last week, followed today by Portugal, Slovakia and Norway, bringing the total number of participating countries to 22.
