Industrial production stable in the euro area and up by 0.2% in the EU

Overview

In June 2026, compared with May 2026, seasonally adjusted industrial production remained stable in the euro area and increased by 0.2% in the EU, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In May 2026, industrial production grew by 0.3% in both the euro area and the EU.

In June 2026, compared with June 2025, industrial production increased by 0.1% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU.

decreased for intermediate goods by 0.8%,
increased for energy by 1.5%,
decreased for capital goods by 1.4%,
increased for durable consumer goods by 0.3%,
increased for non-durable consumer goods by 3.0%.

In the EU, industrial production

decreased for intermediate goods by 0.7%,
increased for energy by 1.0%,
decreased for capital goods by 0.9%,
increased for durable consumer goods by 0.9%,
increased for non-durable consumer goods by 2.5%.

Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases were recorded in Denmark (+5.4%), Croatia (+5.2%), Lithuania and Finland (both +2.1%). The largest decreases were observed in Luxembourg (-10.7%), Portugal (-3.9%) and Estonia (-2.2%).

Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest annual increases were recorded in Lithuania (+7.7%), Denmark (+6.1%) and Poland (+4.9%). The largest decreases were observed in Luxembourg (-7.9%), Romania (-5.6%) and Estonia (-4.6%).

Revisions and timetable

Compared with data issued in the News Release of 15 July 2026, the monthly percentage change for May 2026 has been revised from -0.2% to +0.3% in the euro area and from -0.1% to +0.3% in the EU. The annual percentage change has been revised from -1.2% to -0.1% in the euro area and from -0.3% to +0.6% in the EU .

Methods and definitions

The index of industrial production measures the evolution of the volume of production for industry excluding construction, based on data adjusted for calendar and seasonal effects.

Seasonally adjusted euro area and EU series are calculated by aggregating the seasonally adjusted national data.

Total industry covers NACE Rev. 2 sections B to D. Missing observations from Member States for recent months are estimated for the calculation of the euro area and the EU aggregates.

The Euro area (EA21) includes Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland.
