The European Commission has published an overview of recent developments in the EU transport and tourism sectors, presenting key trends and indicators at EU level and across individual Member States.
The report examines the competitiveness of the EU transport system from different perspectives, including sustainability, resilience and connectivity, safety and security, as well as the social dimension of mobility. With around 1.4 million transport companies employing some 10.4 million people across the EU, the sector plays a crucial role in supporting citizens, businesses and trade, improving quality of life, strengthening economic resilience and addressing climate and environmental challenges.
The report brings together a wide range of indicators illustrating trends and developments, including energy consumption, the uptake of alternative fuels, infrastructure development and investment.
This edition also includes facts and figures on tourism in the EU. Tourism is a key economic sector, contributing significantly to growth, employment and regional development. In 2025, the EU recorded a record number of overnight stays in tourism accommodation, exceeding 3 billion. Against this backdrop, the forthcoming EU Strategy for Sustainable Tourism aims to support a competitive, sustainable and inclusive tourism model that contributes to Europe’s environmental objectives, strengthens local communities and improves the sector’s resilience to future challenges.
For each Member State, a country factsheet provides key indicators on transport network structures, the uptake of alternative fuels, and other relevant transport data.
