This afternoon, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy Henna Virkkunen and Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen are hosting a high-level event with industry leaders and innovators exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and energy.

As AI rapidly advances, its potential to strengthen Europe’s energy resilience and accelerate the clean transition is becoming increasingly clear. At the same time, the growing electricity needs of AI technologies call for smart, forward-looking planning.

The European Commission aims to ensure the EU is fully prepared to seize these opportunities while safeguarding the stability and reliability of Europe’s energy system. Insights from the event will provide input for the Strategic Roadmap for Digitalisation and AI in the Energy Sector, which is set for adoption next year. The roadmap will define concrete steps to prepare Europe’s energy system for the future and support the goals of the Apply AI Strategy and the AI Continent Action Plan.

In their opening remarks, Executive Vice-President Virkkunen and Commissioner Jørgensen will outline the policy vision driving the Commission’s digital and energy priorities. They will highlight the essential role of cross-sector collaboration—between technology developers, energy providers, industry, and policymakers—to scale the use of AI across the energy system, while managing the risks responsibly. Such an approach will maximise benefits for consumers and businesses alike.

Leading industry voices will showcase how Europe is already leveraging digitalisation and AI to power the clean energy transition and reinforce global leadership in this field.

The opening remarks by the College Members will be broadcasted live on EBS.
